Halloween

We had a fun Halloween Party last weekend with my family. We had almost everyone in our whole family there. Of course, there were some key people missing, including Travis, but compared to years past, we had a big group there! It was sure fun, except for when my sweet nephew tripped while playing and broke his femur. He's in a body cast for six weeks. Poor little guy!

Baby Hailey's First Week

Hailey is here, and is a week old already! It's crazy the difference in how fast this week went, as compared to the week before she was born, and we were just waiting for her arrival. Now we are just enjoying every moment we have with this sweet girl! Hailey has been a GREAT baby! Travis wakes up and asks me every morning how Hailey slept. He sleeps right through the morning feedings..lucky guy! Actually, I'm lucky too. Hailey's a sleeper. She slept for 7.5 hours the first night we brought her home, and has slept no less than 4 hours straight each night since then, but averages right around 5.5 hours at a time. Hailey is a great little eater too. She spits up more than her sister ever did, but is doing really well.

Addison has been AWESOME with Hailey. She is gentle and loves to know where Hailey is and what she's doing all the time. She likes to get diapers, and do what she can to help Mom. She got several dollies before Hailey was born, and loves to put them in Hailey's swing, bouncer, car seat, change their diapers, and wrap them up in their blankets, just like Mom does with Hailey. She of course has had her fair share of melt-downs, but overall, I am really happy with how she has handled the big change.

Here's a picture of me the night before Hailey was born. Trav took the picture and cut off my head a bit, but you get the idea! I was so big!

Tuesday morning, October 19, 2010, we headed to McKay Dee Hospital at 7 AM for the induction. We got there, and they didn't have me on the schedule. I'm not sure what happened because I was there when my doctor called to schedule me, but it worked out, and after a few minutes of waiting, we got to our delivery room. A few minutes before 8 AM, they started the Pitocin, and my doctor came in to break my water at 8:15 AM. At that point, I was dialated to about a 4 or 5.
After about 10 or 15 minutes, I started to feel the contractions much more. They were pretty intense, but I was trying to tough it out. My Mom kept asking me if I was okay, and I kept telling her I was. She asked if I wanted an epidural yet, and I told her I would just wait until the nurse came in next. Rather than waiting, Travis thankfully went out and told the nurse I was ready. It took about 15 minutes before I got the epidural, and when I finally did, I was already dialated to a 7. It was an awesome epidural. Although I wasn't feeling pain, I was still able to feel pressure, and move my legs.

The nurse had me turn on my side while I continued to progress, and we all just figured we would be waiting for awhile. Trav played his game, and I tried to nap, unsuccessfully.

A few minutes later, the nurse came in to check me, and I was completely dialated. It all happened so fast. She called Dr. Boheen, and said that while we waited for her to arrive, she wanted me to do a few practice pushes. I pushed once, and she had me stop because I was a "good pusher", and she didn't want to deliver the baby without the Dr.

L&D Nurse Jenni, getting ready just before Dr. Boheen arrived.

Just waiting for the Dr. to arrive before the big push.

Pushing - look at Trav's face in the third picture - PRICELESS!

And...here she is - 10:59 AM

Trav cut the cord

They put Hailey right on my chest as soon as she was born. She was still goopy, and so warm - it was wonderful! I didn't get to hold Addison for so long. They took her away to weigh, measure, and wash her. Travis, my Mom, and Jo all held Addi before I ever did. This time, I was the first to hold her, and it was the best thing! They checked her over while she was still on my chest. She stayed there about twenty minutes before they took her to weigh and measure her.

She weighed 7 lbs 11.5 oz., and was 20 inches long.

One happy Daddy
