Wrapped Up
In February, Dad and Marty took a three week trip to New Zealand and Australia. I always learn a lot when Dad leaves on his long trips, and I get lots of hours in, but mostly I gain a greater appreciation for all that my Dad does. He really is one of the hardest workers I know! Needless to say, I'm always glad when he gets home! This time, I thought I'd let him know just how much we missed him, so we pranked him a bit -
30...Gulp!
I turned 30 on February 15th. I wasn't looking forward to leaving my twenties, but my husband made some pretty fantastic plans to help me ease my way in.
My birthday was on a Friday. We had made arrangements to leave work early for lunch and a movie. We headed over to our favorite Sushi place, Fuji Sushi, and enjoyed a nice lunch with just the two of us, no kids hanging around, begging for food, wiping their dirty faces on us, and whining...it was nice! After lunch, we went to see, Safe Harbor, in the theater. It was a cute love story, which of course made me cry. After the movie, Travis made me put a blindfold on and drove me all over the city, at least it seemed. We were driving forever - I thought we were up in Park City, we had driven so much. FINALLY, he told me we could get out, but that I had to keep my blindfold on. I had to carry a bunch of balloons that Trav had purchased, including a Mylar princess balloon. I was embarrassed enough to have to wear a blindfold, let alone to hold the huge bunch of balloons as we walked through a place with a bunch of people around. After walking for a bit, Travis stopped me, and the next thing I heard was, "Surprise"!
It turns out mostly everyone I love was in the room (there were a few key people missing) - a suite at the Marriott. With the help of Trav's sister, Kelli, an amazing party had been planned, with a Hollywood theme. There were daring popcorn cupcakes, stars, and my name was in lights. It was such a fun (although a bit squishy) party!
After the party everyone went home, but Trav had arranged for someone to take our girls, and we got to spend the night at the hotel. It was so nice to be able to sleep in and relax. It was definitely a birthday to remember!

January 2013
January brought lots of snow and cold. Actually, it brought an ice storm too - which I had never seen before. Unfortunately, I didn't snap a picture of the ice, but it was strange!
The girls love the snow, and winter is a favorite for them!
January also brought Alyssa and Lincoln for Grandma Goose's funeral. It was so good to have her here with us. We got to get away together as sisters to get pedicures. It was lots of fun! Janelle was taking the picture, so unfortunately, she's not it the shot.
January also brought lots of sickness. It seems like Hailey is ALWAYS sick! Here's a shot of my little sickie!
Fortunately, she bounces back well once she's sick...look at that face -
For a fun night out, we went to see a University of Utah basketball game. The girls had fun!
Papa
Within a week of losing Grandma Goose, we also lost Jo's Dad, Papa. Papa was a good man! He and Travis had a special relationship. The loved to hike together, although they didn't speak much while they hiked, I know that special memories were made while they were together. I only wish that Travis got more of Papa's handyman skills! Papa was a master carpenter, and a skilled craftsman. He loved working and just a few months before he passed, he told Jo that he was going to re-shingle her roof. Papa had a huge heart and served many throughout his life!

Grandma Goose
On December 30, 2012, my Grandma Goose passed away. My Grandma had a profound impact on my life. She was the greatest example of sacrifice and service. She gave and loved more than anyone I know. Grandma was notorious for handwritten notes of encouragement and happiness always signed XOXO, Grandma. Grandma delighted in chocolate, babies, beautifully wrapped packages, The Tabernacle Choir, and the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was a great missionary and carried Books of Mormon with her along her in her many travels, and I know that she touched many lives.
I know that Grandma was welcomed in Heaven by all her loved ones, including Grandpa Jerry, and sweet Aunt Cathy, but even almost a year later, we sure miss her! I miss her soft hugs, cackle laugh, and happy spirit. I love you, Grandma Goose!

She had a deep appreciation for the beauty she found daily in the art, music, and scenery of the world around her. She recognized every good thing as a gift from her Heavenly Father and she spent her life sharing those gifts of love, testimony, and time with anybody who needed them. We are confident her life of giving is being rewarded by a joyous reunion with her family and her Heavenly Father.

She married Deon W. Stuart on Sept 12,1967, and welcomed his children to her family. She then added her business experience to Stuart Inc. and together she and Deon worked in multiple business and civic responsibilities through the years.
For all of her community involvement, the Gospel of Jesus Christ was the true core of her life. She served for many years in Ward and Stake Young Women and Relief Society callings. She particularly enjoyed the years of missionary service, hosting, and decorating that she and Deon contributed on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.
